About the role
This interview tests how you value a business when forecasts, market inputs and comparable evidence all require judgement. The panel is looking for sound method selection, controlled modelling, commercial challenge and the ability to explain a range without pretending it is more precise than the evidence allows.
How to prepare
- Review the strengths and limitations of income, market and asset-based valuation approaches.
- Practise explaining discount rates, terminal value and sensitivity analysis without relying on formula recitation.
- Prepare an example where you challenged a forecast or adjusted a comparable set.
- Review the checks you use to find model errors and inconsistent assumptions.
- Practise defending a valuation range while acknowledging material uncertainty.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a method because it is familiar rather than suitable for the asset and purpose.
- Using precise outputs to conceal weak or highly uncertain inputs.
- Selecting only comparables that support a preferred conclusion.
- Discussing the model mechanics without explaining the commercial value drivers.
