About the role
This interview examines the analytical work behind life insurance pricing and projection. The panel will look for disciplined assumption setting, strong spreadsheet and model controls, thoughtful interpretation of experience and the ability to explain commercial consequences without hiding uncertainty.
How to prepare
- Review how mortality, lapse, expense, investment and distribution assumptions affect life product cash flows.
- Prepare an experience analysis where the result led to an assumption or model change.
- Practise describing model validation, sensitivity testing and reconciliation controls.
- Think through how you would work with sparse, inconsistent or changing policy data.
- Prepare to translate an actuarial result into a clear recommendation for a non-actuarial stakeholder.
Common mistakes
- Listing assumptions without explaining why they are suitable for the product and data.
- Trusting model output without reconciliation, sensitivity testing or peer review.
- Ignoring data limitations when presenting a precise-looking result.
- Explaining the mathematics without connecting it to price, profit or risk.
