About the role
This executive interview tests actuarial judgement across reserving, pricing, capital and financial reporting. The panel is looking for technical depth, strong model governance and clear communication of uncertainty to senior decision-makers. It will also assess how you lead specialists and work with underwriting, claims, finance and risk.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example where uncertain or conflicting evidence required a material actuarial judgement.
- Review how you govern assumptions, model changes, validation and the use of expert judgement.
- Choose a reserve movement you explained clearly to finance leaders or a board.
- Think through how pricing, capital and reinsurance costs should influence product decisions.
- Prepare an example of strengthening actuarial capability or challenging a senior specialist constructively.
Common mistakes
- Presenting model output as certain without discussing assumptions, ranges or limitations.
- Using technical language when the panel needs a business recommendation.
- Treating data quality as someone else's responsibility.
- Describing actuarial work in isolation from claims, underwriting, finance and risk.
