About the role
An advertising account manager connects the client with strategy, creative, production and media teams. The interview tests how you shape briefs, protect budgets, guide feedback and keep campaigns moving when priorities change. The panel is looking for commercial awareness, calm client handling and clear ownership of delivery.
How to prepare
- Choose examples that show how you improved a weak brief and kept a campaign on track.
- Review how estimates, scope changes, supplier costs and approvals affect an agency budget.
- Prepare a case where you challenged a client request without damaging the relationship.
- Practise explaining creative work in terms of the audience, objective and channel.
- Think through how you record decisions and escalate risks across several live accounts.
Common mistakes
- Presenting yourself as a messenger between the client and agency rather than an adviser.
- Agreeing to extra work before checking scope, cost and delivery impact.
- Passing vague client comments to the creative team without clarifying the problem.
- Describing team results without making your own decisions and contribution clear.
