About the role
An advertising account executive is the link between clients and the agency teams producing their campaigns. The interview tests whether you can understand a brief, coordinate details, communicate calmly and keep work moving. The panel also wants to see sound judgement when requests, timelines and budgets conflict.
How to prepare
- Study how an advertising brief connects the business objective, audience, message, deliverables, budget and timing.
- Prepare an example of coordinating a group project with several contributors and deadlines.
- Practise turning vague client comments into specific actions for a creative team.
- Review a recent campaign and form a view on what the client may have wanted it to achieve.
- Think through how you would report a delay before it becomes a surprise.
Common mistakes
- Agreeing to every client request without checking cost, timing or team capacity.
- Passing vague or contradictory feedback straight to the creative team.
- Waiting until the agreed delivery time has passed before raising a risk.
- Focusing on friendliness while overlooking accuracy and follow-through.
