About the award
This interview assesses applicants who want to lead practical responses to climate risks in African communities. The panel is interested in sound adaptation thinking, locally led design, evidence, fair outcomes and the ability to coordinate people with different priorities.
How to prepare
- Map one climate hazard through its causes, exposed groups, current responses and remaining gaps.
- Prepare a project example that shows how community knowledge changed a decision.
- Choose a small set of indicators that would reveal whether an adaptation measure is working.
- Think through who might bear new costs or risks under your proposed response.
- Check the programme's official information for current eligibility, themes and application rules.
Common mistakes
- Offering a technical solution before showing that the community helped define the problem.
- Using climate language without explaining the actual risk or adaptation benefit.
- Ignoring maintenance, local capacity or the people who may be left worse off.
