About the award
A young leaders fellowship interview selects people who have already led change and want structured support to do more. The panel looks at your leadership record, the impact you have had on a community or organisation, your vision for the next few years, how you work with others, and what you want to learn from the fellowship.
How to prepare
- Pick two leadership stories with clear outcomes, such as people reached or problems solved.
- Be ready to describe a time a project failed or stalled and what you changed.
- Write a one-sentence vision for your work and practise backing it with concrete next steps.
- Study the fellowship's focus areas and past activities so you can say what you want from it.
- Think about how you share credit and handle disagreements within a team.
Common mistakes
- Describing a title or position instead of what you actually did and changed.
- Speaking about vision in big words with no plan for the next year.
- Treating the fellowship as a free trip rather than a chance to learn and contribute.
