About the audition
Background actor casting checks whether you can help a scene feel real while following detailed set instructions. The team looks for natural silent action, repeatable movement, patience, punctuality, safe behaviour and respect for the production's confidentiality.
How to prepare
- Practise simple activities such as greeting someone, waiting or crossing a room without speaking or looking at the camera.
- Learn common set instructions and listen for which assistant director is responsible for background action.
- Plan reliable travel with extra time for traffic and confirm the correct meeting point.
- Check the wardrobe guidance and prepare only the clothing options requested.
- Arrange your commitments so you can stay for the full period stated by casting.
Common mistakes
- Looking into the camera or trying to attract attention during a take.
- Changing movements between takes without checking with the assistant director.
- Wandering away from the holding area without telling the production team.
- Posting set details or images before the production permits it.
