About the role
This graduate internship interview tests your grasp of statistical foundations and your readiness to apply them to health or biological research. The panel expects careful data work, awareness of study design, reproducible reasoning and the confidence to ask for review when a method is new.
How to prepare
- Revise distributions, summary measures, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and simple regression.
- Practise explaining confounding, bias and association without relying on technical jargon.
- Prepare to discuss an R, spreadsheet or statistics project from raw data to interpretation.
- Review ways to check missing values, impossible values and unexpected changes in row counts.
- Practise describing an uncertain result without turning it into a definite claim.
Common mistakes
- Reciting formulas without connecting them to the research question.
- Interpreting statistical significance as proof of practical importance or causation.
- Editing out unusual values without investigating and recording the decision.
- Pretending to know an unfamiliar method instead of explaining how you would verify it.
