About the role

A calibration technician protects the reliability of measurements used to control manufacturing and release products. The interview examines your hands-on method, understanding of traceability and tolerance, record quality and response when equipment is found outside acceptable limits.

How to prepare

  1. Review calibration methods for the pressure, temperature, mass, electrical or dimensional instruments you know.
  2. Prepare an example of diagnosing an unstable or failed instrument.
  3. Revise traceability, as-found and as-left results, tolerance and measurement uncertainty.
  4. Be ready to explain how you label, isolate and report out-of-tolerance equipment.
  5. Practise describing how environmental conditions can affect a measurement.

Common mistakes

  • Treating adjustment as the same activity as calibration.
  • Recording only pass or fail without the actual readings and reference standard.
  • Returning failed equipment to service without assessing earlier measurements or product impact.
