About this interview
This practice is for an advocacy interview on preventing and responding to harm against children. It focuses on keeping children safe while speaking publicly, giving audiences useful reporting guidance and making a clear case for institutional or community action without exposing individual cases.
How to prepare
- Review the safeguarding and referral process relevant to the setting you will discuss.
- Prepare language that centres the child's safety and avoids blame or speculation.
- Remove identifying details from every case example, including indirect clues.
- Define the action you want institutions, adults and communities to take.
- Practise declining requests for confidential details while offering safer information.
Common mistakes
- Sharing enough detail for a child or family to be identified.
- Questioning a child's character instead of explaining a safe response to a disclosure.
- Promising an outcome that an advocate cannot control.
- Using shocking case details in place of a practical safeguarding message.
