About this interview
TV or radio interview practice prepares you to speak on air as a guest, whether about your business, your work or an issue you care about. You work on landing a few key messages, keeping answers short, dealing with tough questions and staying calm when the presenter pushes.
How to prepare
- Decide on two or three key messages and how you will bring each one in.
- Practise answers of 20 to 30 seconds that make sense even when cut out of context.
- Prepare plain, honest answers to the hardest questions you can think of.
- Turn facts into short examples that listeners will remember.
- Find out the programme format, length and whether it is live or recorded.
Common mistakes
- Using jargon or long figures that listeners cannot follow.
- Giving long answers that the presenter cuts off before your point.
- Getting irritated when challenged, which is what the audience remembers.
