About this interview
This interview is for volunteers helping with a community clean-up event in streets, markets, parks or shared spaces. Organisers want people who will follow safety instructions, work steadily with others and speak respectfully with residents. They may also test how you respond when equipment, weather or waste collection plans change.
How to prepare
- Review the event description so you understand the location, meeting arrangements and expected duties.
- Prepare an example of reliable teamwork from volunteering, work, study or another community activity.
- Think through how you would handle sharp objects, unknown liquids, heavy waste and busy roads without taking unnecessary risks.
- Practise explaining the clean-up politely to a resident or trader who is concerned about access or disruption.
- Plan your journey and availability so you can arrive before the safety briefing and stay for your agreed shift.
Common mistakes
- Treating unknown or sharp waste as ordinary litter instead of alerting the event lead.
- Focusing on speed while ignoring protective equipment, traffic or safe lifting.
- Arguing with residents rather than listening and asking the event lead to help resolve concerns.
- Promising availability that you cannot reliably fulfil.
