About the role

This interview covers the relationship between a mine and the communities affected by its activities. The panel wants evidence that you can hear different voices, manage grievances fairly, negotiate within clear authority and warn leaders about emerging social risks. Strong answers balance community impact, operational continuity and commitments that can actually be delivered.

How to prepare

  1. Prepare a stakeholder map that distinguishes affected people, representatives, vulnerable groups, authorities and operational decision makers.
  2. Review a difficult grievance you handled from intake through investigation, response and closure.
  3. Practise explaining how you would communicate uncertainty without making promises on jobs, contracts or compensation.
  4. Prepare an example of resolving conflict while keeping a usable record of commitments and owners.
  5. Think through how you would measure whether a community programme produces lasting value.

Common mistakes

  • Treating prominent leaders as the only legitimate community voices.
  • Making promises before confirming authority, budget and delivery responsibility.
  • Calling an issue resolved because a meeting occurred without checking the outcome.
  • Reporting only formal complaints and missing early signs of tension.
