About the award
This fellowship interview tests how you would use data to support development decisions, not just whether you can operate analytical tools. The panel looks for sound reasoning, care with sensitive information and clear communication with programme teams and communities. Check the official programme guidance for current eligibility and selection rules.
How to prepare
- Review one analysis from question formulation through cleaning, interpretation and communication.
- Prepare to explain a method and its limitations without technical shorthand.
- Think through consent, data minimisation, access controls and the risks of small-group reporting.
- Identify a decision that your proposed analysis would change and how you would know it was useful.
- Check the official programme information for accepted evidence and current application requirements.
Common mistakes
- Starting with a preferred tool before defining the decision or question.
- Treating incomplete or biased data as representative.
- Sharing granular data without considering identification risk.
- Overstating a pattern as proof of cause.
