About the role
A delivery rider collects parcels or food and gets them to customers safely and on time, often on a motorcycle through heavy traffic. The interviewer is deciding whether you ride safely, plan routes well, look after cash and parcels, and speak politely to customers even when an address is hard to find.
How to prepare
- Know the main roads and shortcuts in the areas the company covers and how traffic changes through the day.
- Be ready to explain the safety checks you do on your bike before you start a shift.
- Think of a delivery that went wrong and how you sorted it out with the customer.
- Practise using map apps to find a location from a landmark description, as many customers give directions that way.
- Prepare an honest answer about how you handle collecting cash and keeping it safe until you remit it.
Common mistakes
- Bragging about how fast you ride, which worries any employer responsible for your safety.
- Having no clear plan for what you do when a customer is not reachable at the address.
- Speaking carelessly about cash, when trust is one of the main things being judged.
