About the role

This interview explores how you turn a director's intent into an achievable photographic approach. The panel will look for purposeful visual choices, command of camera and lighting craft, careful planning and confident crew leadership. Your examples should make clear what you decided, why it served the story and how you handled real production limits.

How to prepare

  1. Select contrasting projects and break down your choices of lens, framing, movement, light and colour.
  2. Prepare to explain how you test a look and communicate it to the director, production designer and post-production team.
  3. Choose an example where time, power, weather or location access forced a practical change.
  4. Review your approach to exposure, monitoring, colour management and matching different cameras.
  5. Think through a safety disagreement and how you protected the crew while preserving the creative aim.

Common mistakes

  • Naming camera bodies and lenses without linking choices to story or mood.
  • Taking credit for production design, grading or direction without clarifying collaboration.
  • Proposing ambitious setups without accounting for schedule, power or crew safety.
  • Showing attractive images while giving no account of consistency or technical control.
