About the role
This interview is for an internship supporting a fashion design team with research, sketches, fabric selection and garment development. The panel wants to see creative potential, sound technical foundations and a willingness to learn from designers, pattern cutters and production staff.
How to prepare
- Select a few portfolio projects and prepare a short explanation of the brief, research, choices and result.
- Review basic fabric properties, garment construction terms and the information used in a clear design specification.
- Practise turning a broad customer or collection idea into a small, coherent set of garment concepts.
- Prepare an example of receiving feedback and improving creative work without losing the purpose of the design.
Common mistakes
- Showing attractive images without explaining the brief or your own contribution.
- Choosing materials without considering comfort, movement or construction.
- Treating changes from the design or production team as a rejection of your creativity.
