About the role
A fashion merchandising intern supports the team that plans ranges, maintains product information and watches how stock sells across channels or stores. The panel is assessing your comfort with numbers, interest in customers and products, attention to detail and ability to turn observations into useful actions.
How to prepare
- Review basic retail measures such as units sold, stock on hand and how size or colour availability affects sales.
- Practise sorting, filtering and checking a small product or sales table in Excel.
- Visit a fashion shop or online store and note how its range, pricing and availability appear to serve its customer.
- Prepare an example of finding an error in data or records and correcting it carefully.
Common mistakes
- Discussing trends without considering sales, stock or the target customer.
- Drawing conclusions from a spreadsheet before checking missing, duplicated or inconsistent data.
- Treating merchandising as only visual display and overlooking range and stock decisions.
