About the role
A forklift operator moves pallets without injuring people, damaging stock or striking equipment and racking. The interviewer will test your pre-use checks, control of unstable or obstructed loads and willingness to stop when a task or machine is unsafe.
How to prepare
- Review the full pre-use inspection for the type of forklift you know.
- Practise explaining safe travel, turning, reversing, parking and work near pedestrians.
- Be ready to describe how you assess a pallet, load centre and destination before lifting.
- Think of a time you stopped or reported an unsafe task, machine fault or damaged pallet.
- Check the official requirements that apply to forklift training and authorisation where the job is based.
Common mistakes
- Saying you would move an unstable load because dispatch is urgent.
- Skipping pre-use checks when another operator used the machine earlier.
- Treating horns, speed limits or pedestrian routes as optional.
- Claiming authorisation for equipment you have not been trained to operate.
