About the role
A frontend engineer builds the part of a product people see and touch: pages, forms, components and the logic that ties them to the backend. You work closely with designers to turn screens into code that loads quickly, works with a keyboard and screen reader, and holds up on cheap phones. The panel is judging your craft, your care for users and how well you collaborate.
How to prepare
- Choose one component you built and be ready to explain its structure, its state and how you kept it reusable.
- Brush up on page performance: what slows a first load, how you measure it and the fixes that made a real difference for you.
- Review accessibility basics such as semantic markup, focus order, colour contrast and labels on form fields.
- Prepare an example of a disagreement with a designer and how you reached a version you were both happy with.
- Test one of your own projects on a low-end phone and a slow connection so you can speak about it from experience.
Common mistakes
- Treating accessibility as an extra to add at the end rather than part of building it properly.
- Talking only about frameworks instead of the problems you solved for users.
- Showing a portfolio project you cannot explain in detail when the panel asks you to go deeper.
