About the role

A full-stack engineer builds complete features, from the screen a user taps to the API and database behind it. Day to day you move between front end work, backend logic, data changes and deployment, often owning a feature from idea to release. The panel is checking that you are solid on both sides and can make sensible calls about where logic should live.

How to prepare

  1. Choose one feature you built end to end and be ready to explain every layer, from the form to the database table.
  2. Revise how authentication and sessions work across the browser and the server.
  3. Prepare an example where you chose between doing work on the client or the server, and explain why.
  4. Think about how you test a feature across layers so a change on one side does not quietly break the other.
  5. Be honest with yourself about your stronger side and prepare to show how you cover the weaker one.

Common mistakes

  • Being shallow everywhere and unable to go deep on any single layer when pushed.
  • Ignoring data design and treating the database as an afterthought.
  • Describing features by the tools used rather than the user problem they solved.
