About the role
This interview tests how you apply basic HSE principles in a working mine, where people, heavy equipment and processing activities interact. The panel is looking for careful observation, sensible controls, accurate reporting and the confidence to raise a concern respectfully.
How to prepare
- Review the hierarchy of controls and practise applying it to haul roads, conveyors, workshops and processing areas.
- Prepare an example of a hazard you noticed and explain what action you took.
- Revise the first steps in responding to an incident without disturbing important evidence.
- Practise giving a short toolbox talk on one common mining hazard.
- Think through how you would challenge unsafe behaviour while keeping the conversation constructive.
Common mistakes
- Treating personal protective equipment as the only possible control.
- Walking into an unsafe area before checking isolation or access controls.
- Blaming a person before gathering facts about the incident.
- Giving a rule without explaining how it reduces the risk.
