About the role
This interview examines how you control high-consequence risks in pits, underground workings, plants and workshops. The panel will expect visible field judgement, credible incident investigation, disciplined permit control and the confidence to stop unsafe work while keeping people engaged.
How to prepare
- Map common mining hazards to elimination, engineering, administrative and personal protective controls.
- Prepare an incident example that separates immediate causes, underlying causes and corrective actions.
- Review how you inspect traffic management, energy isolation, work at height and mobile equipment interactions.
- Think of a time you influenced a resistant supervisor, contractor or experienced operator.
- Practise explaining how you verify that a corrective action is effective rather than merely complete.
Common mistakes
- Responding to every hazard with training or personal protective equipment alone.
- Blaming an injured worker before examining equipment, supervision and work design.
- Quoting procedures without showing how you check conditions in the field.
- Closing actions administratively without confirming that exposure has reduced.
