About the role
This interview examines how you keep instruments and control systems accurate, stable and safe on an operating process plant. The panel is looking for diagnosis that separates process, instrument and logic causes, plus controlled testing of any change.
How to prepare
- Revise measurement principles, control valves, loop tuning, alarms and PLC or distributed control logic.
- Prepare a case where process behaviour initially looked like an instrument fault, or the reverse.
- Review management of change, bypass control and functional testing practices.
- Be ready to explain how you plan calibration and proof testing around production constraints.
Common mistakes
- Calibrating or replacing an instrument before checking impulse lines, wiring and process conditions.
- Changing live logic without independent review, testing or a rollback plan.
- Discussing control performance without considering the operator and the final control element.
