About the role
An internal audit graduate supports planning, testing and reporting on how well an organisation manages risk. The interview checks whether you can connect evidence to an audit objective, document work for review and raise findings without becoming either timid or accusatory.
How to prepare
- Review the stages of an internal audit from scoping and fieldwork through reporting and follow-up.
- Practise turning a control description into a test with a population, sample, evidence and conclusion.
- Prepare an example where you questioned inconsistent information respectfully.
- Refresh spreadsheet techniques for selecting samples and recording test results.
- Practise writing a finding that explains the condition, cause, risk and agreed action.
Common mistakes
- Testing documents without explaining which risk or audit objective the test addresses.
- Accepting an approval mark without checking its timing, authority and supporting evidence.
- Writing working papers that record the result but not the method or source.
- Presenting every exception as a major finding without considering impact and frequency.
