About the role
A junior penetration tester examines authorised systems for weaknesses and explains how to fix them. The interview tests your methodology, web and network fundamentals, evidence quality and respect for scope. Panels value careful judgement and readable reports because an uncontrolled test or vague finding creates more risk than value.
How to prepare
- Revise common web access control, input handling, authentication and session weaknesses.
- Practise moving from discovery to safe validation, evidence capture, clean-up and reporting.
- Review basic network enumeration and how to distinguish an exposed service from an exploitable flaw.
- Prepare to explain how scope, likelihood, exposure and business impact affect severity.
- Write a sample finding with steps to reproduce, impact, evidence, remediation and a retest method.
Common mistakes
- Testing a system or technique that is outside the written scope.
- Copying scanner output into a report without manual validation.
- Describing a weakness without clear reproduction steps or useful remediation.
- Keeping client data or credentials after the agreed work is complete.
