About the role
This technical interview examines how you produce reliable environmental test results from receipt of a sample to the final report. The panel is looking for careful method execution, mature judgement on failed quality controls, safe laboratory practice and records that withstand review.
How to prepare
- Review the sample receipt, preservation and chain-of-custody controls used in your laboratory work.
- Prepare to explain one environmental method from sample preparation through calibration and calculation.
- Revise how blanks, spikes, duplicates, reference materials and control limits support a valid run.
- Think through instrument drift, contamination, carryover and transcription errors as possible root causes.
- Prepare an example of stopping or delaying work because safety or quality conditions were not met.
Common mistakes
- Reporting a number before confirming that the batch quality controls passed.
- Ignoring sample condition and chain of custody once analysis has started.
- Restarting an instrument run without investigating why control performance changed.
- Treating personal protective equipment as the only laboratory hazard control.
