About the role
This interview tests how you would support the contract process from first review to signature and renewal. The panel is looking for careful drafting, sensible issue spotting, organised records and advice that colleagues can use without needing a lecture on the law.
How to prepare
- Revise the purpose of common clauses such as liability, indemnity, termination, confidentiality and dispute resolution.
- Practise marking up a short agreement and explaining why each important change is needed.
- Prepare an example of how you caught an error or controlled several versions of a document.
- Think through how you would distinguish a serious legal risk from a point that can be accepted commercially.
- Review a simple method for tracking approvals, signatures, obligations and renewal dates.
Common mistakes
- Listing contract clauses without explaining the risk or a practical alternative.
- Treating every issue as a reason to stop the transaction.
- Missing inconsistencies between the main agreement, schedules and defined terms.
- Describing confidential agreements in a way that identifies a former client or employer.
