About the role
A materials manager keeps production supplied while controlling inventory and working capital. The panel will test whether you can connect forecasts, bills of materials, purchasing, stores accuracy and production priorities, then lead teams through shortages without hiding the trade-offs.
How to prepare
- Revise how material requirements, lead times, safety stock and order policies interact.
- Prepare an example of resolving a shortage that threatened the production schedule.
- Be ready to explain how you investigate stock variance from system record to root cause.
- Think through controls for expiring, slow-moving and obsolete materials.
- Prepare an example of improving coordination between planning, procurement, production and stores.
Common mistakes
- Using extra inventory as the answer to every supply problem.
- Quoting system balances without explaining physical controls.
- Promising full service when supply constraints require explicit choices.
- Listing measures without showing how they change daily decisions.
