About the role
This interview tests how you maintain static and rotating mechanical equipment on an operating oil and gas facility. The panel is looking for disciplined diagnosis, realistic planning, firm control of isolations and examples of preventing repeat failures.
How to prepare
- Revise common failure modes for pumps, compressors, valves, heat exchangers and piping supports.
- Prepare an example of a maintenance job you planned from fault report through return to service.
- Review isolation, permit to work and post-maintenance testing practices.
- Be ready to explain how you use work history and condition information to change a maintenance task.
Common mistakes
- Jumping to dismantling equipment before checking operating conditions and recent work history.
- Treating the maintenance schedule as more important than a verified safe isolation.
- Claiming improved reliability without explaining the failure mechanism or evidence.
