About the role
This interview covers microbiological control of pharmaceutical products, manufacturing areas and water systems. The panel will test your laboratory technique, understanding of recovery controls and ability to interpret a result in its operational context. They also want clear judgement when an excursion may affect product quality.
How to prepare
- Review microbial limit testing, growth promotion and the controls that support a valid result.
- Prepare an environmental monitoring excursion and explain how you assessed its source and significance.
- Revise sampling risks for water points, surfaces, air and personnel monitoring.
- Think through how maintenance, cleaning, people and material movement can alter a microbial trend.
- Practise explaining technical findings to production colleagues without overstating what the data proves.
Common mistakes
- Assuming every recovered colony came from poor operator behaviour.
- Reporting a count without considering location, activity, history and organism identity.
- Accepting test results when media or incubation controls have failed.
- Discarding isolates or samples before an excursion has been properly assessed.
