About the role

A mobile engineer builds apps for phones, either natively or with a cross-platform toolkit, and keeps them fast, stable and light on data and battery. The work covers screens and navigation, offline behaviour, crash fixing, app store releases and agreeing APIs with backend teams. The panel wants proof that you understand how apps behave on real devices, not just in an emulator.

How to prepare

  1. Pick an app you shipped and be ready to walk through its architecture, state handling and how you tested it.
  2. Think through how your app copes with no network, a weak signal and a user switching apps in the middle of a task.
  3. Prepare a story about a crash or performance problem you tracked down, including the tools you used and the fix.
  4. Revise the release process: signing, staged rollouts, store reviews and how you handle a bad build already in users' hands.
  5. Be ready to weigh native against cross-platform for a given product, giving fair credit to both approaches.

Common mistakes

  • Only testing on a new flagship phone and ignoring the older devices most users carry.
  • Ignoring app size and data use, which matter a lot to users paying for every megabyte.
  • Describing features you built without saying how you tracked crashes and performance after release.
