About the programme
This interview checks whether your civil or structural engineering foundation is strong enough for advanced analysis and design. The panel will look for safe engineering judgement, a clear grasp of structural behaviour, honest reflection on project work and a focused reason for further study.
How to prepare
- Review equilibrium, load paths, stiffness, stability and the behaviour of common structural materials.
- Choose one design project and be precise about your role, assumptions, calculations and checks.
- Practise explaining what you would verify when software output looks physically unreasonable.
- Consider how ground conditions, constructability and maintenance affect structural choices.
- Refresh the mathematical topics most relevant to the programme modules.
Common mistakes
- Quoting software results without checking whether the structural behaviour is plausible.
- Reciting design rules without explaining the principle or failure mode behind them.
- Taking credit for a team project without identifying your own decisions and outputs.
- Ignoring buildability, ground conditions or how the structure will be maintained.
