About the role
A product designer shapes how a product works and feels, from flows and layouts to the small interactions in between. At senior level you lead research-informed design, present work for critique, raise the craft of other designers and partner closely with product and engineering. The panel will dig into your portfolio to see how you think, not just how your screens look.
How to prepare
- Pick two portfolio projects and rehearse a walkthrough covering the problem, your process, key decisions and the outcome.
- Be ready to show where research changed your design and what you did when research was not possible.
- Prepare to take critique on the spot without getting defensive, and to explain your reasoning calmly.
- Think about how you design for low-end phones, small screens and users with varying digital confidence.
- Have a story about mentoring a designer or raising the quality bar across a team.
Common mistakes
- Showing only polished final screens with no sense of the problem or trade-offs.
- Getting defensive when the panel challenges a design choice.
- Speaking about 'the team' so much that your own contribution is unclear.
