About the award
This interview is for a fellowship focused on making public services simpler, fairer and more effective. The panel looks for candidates who understand users, test ideas on a manageable scale, use evidence honestly and can work responsibly within public institutions.
How to prepare
- Check the programme's official information for current selection rules, placement areas and interview instructions.
- Map one public service from the user's first step to the final outcome and note likely delays or exclusions.
- Prepare an example of a small improvement you tested and what you learned from the result.
- Practise defining measures that cover service quality, access, time and user experience.
- Consider how a good digital idea would still serve people with weak connectivity or limited digital skills.
Common mistakes
- Starting with an app or platform before understanding the user's problem.
- Calling an idea successful because it launched rather than because service outcomes improved.
- Overlooking people who cannot use the proposed channel easily.
- Assuming public servants will adopt a change without consultation or support.
