About the role
A QA engineer makes sure an app works as it should before users find out the hard way. You plan tests from requirements, run manual and automated checks, write clear bug reports and help the team decide whether a release is ready. The panel is deciding whether you think like a curious user, report defects clearly and can grow automation without losing judgement.
How to prepare
- Pick a feature from an app you use daily and write down how you would test it, including the awkward edge cases.
- Prepare a bug report you are proud of and be ready to explain what made it easy for a developer to act on.
- Revise the difference between unit, integration, end to end and exploratory testing, and when each is worth the effort.
- Have a story about a release you pushed back on, or one where a bug slipped through, and what you learned.
- Think about testing on slow networks, low storage and older phones, since that is where many real bugs appear.
Common mistakes
- Seeing QA as only finding bugs rather than helping the team prevent them.
- Writing vague bug reports with no steps, no expected result and no evidence.
- Claiming automation experience you cannot back up when the panel asks about a specific script.
