About the role
A route sales officer visits an assigned group of outlets, takes orders, checks stock and supports product availability. The interviewer wants evidence that you can plan a realistic route, sell responsibly, keep dependable records and maintain retailer trust when deliveries or prices cause problems.
How to prepare
- Practise building a daily route that accounts for outlet priority, travel time and delivery windows.
- Review how to check stock condition, expiry dates and first-expiry-first-out rotation at an outlet.
- Prepare an example of handling a customer objection without offering something you could not deliver.
- Be ready to explain how you would record orders, returns, collections and unresolved issues.
- Think about how you would recover a disrupted route after traffic, rain or a vehicle delay.
Common mistakes
- Promising discounts, credit or delivery times without authority.
- Focusing on orders while ignoring stock rotation and damaged products.
- Describing a route without explaining how outlet value and travel time affect it.
