About the role
A sales associate sells a company's products to customers, in a shop, on the phone or out in the field. You learn the products quickly, approach people with confidence, handle rejection and work towards weekly or monthly targets. The panel wants energy, resilience and proof that you learn fast and keep going after a no.
How to prepare
- Learn the company's main products and be ready to explain one to a customer in simple terms.
- Prepare an example of persuading someone, even outside work, such as selling at a school event or in a family business.
- Think about how you bounce back after a bad day or many rejections.
- Practise a short, confident introduction about yourself and why you want to sell.
- Prepare to talk about how you set goals and track your own progress.
Common mistakes
- Being too shy to show confidence in the interview itself.
- Saying you are good with people without giving a real example.
- Not knowing what the company sells.
