About the role
This interview is for an experienced mechanic trusted with complex mechanical and electrical faults. The panel will look for a disciplined diagnostic method, safe repair decisions, strong verification and the ability to guide other technicians. You should show how you reach conclusions from evidence rather than changing parts by trial and error.
How to prepare
- Review how you move from a customer's symptoms to tests, measurements and a confirmed root cause.
- Prepare examples involving intermittent faults, electrical problems and unsuccessful first repairs.
- Revise safe isolation, lifting, road testing and workshop housekeeping practices.
- Think through how you decide whether to repair, replace or escalate a component.
- Practise explaining uncertain findings and repair priorities in plain language.
Common mistakes
- Jumping from a fault code straight to replacing a component.
- Describing repairs without explaining how you verified the result.
- Accepting an unsafe customer request instead of setting a clear boundary.
- Using technical terms without showing that you can explain them to a customer.
