About the role
This interview is for an experienced electrical technician responsible for manufacturing equipment and plant distribution. It tests practical diagnosis, safe isolation, motor and drive knowledge, planned maintenance and support for less experienced technicians. The panel wants a methodical technician who can restore equipment without bypassing protection or creating a repeat fault.
How to prepare
- Practise explaining electrical diagnosis from symptom and drawing through safe tests, repair and functional checks.
- Review motor starters, drives, overloads, control transformers, sensors, earthing and common protection devices.
- Prepare a fault where the obvious component was not the underlying cause.
- Think through how you prove isolation when a panel has more than one supply or stored energy source.
- Prepare an example of coaching a junior technician while keeping urgent plant work under control.
Common mistakes
- Jumping straight to component replacement without checking the circuit, load and operating conditions.
- Assuming an open breaker proves isolation without testing for alternate supplies and stored energy.
- Defeating protection to restore output before understanding why it operated.
- Describing repairs without final functional checks, documentation or a clear handover.
