About the role
A senior strategic planner turns market, audience and brand evidence into a focused direction for advertising. You will be assessed on how you frame ambiguous problems, find insights, make positioning choices and brief creative teams. The panel wants to see a clear chain of reasoning, not a collection of research facts or marketing terms.
How to prepare
- Choose two planning cases and practise explaining how each piece of evidence changed the direction.
- Prepare an example where you challenged the client's original brief and found a more useful problem.
- Review the strengths and limits of interviews, group discussions, surveys, social listening and sales data.
- Practise reducing a complicated strategy to one audience, one barrier and one clear proposition.
- Think about how you would judge an idea before launch and evaluate it afterwards.
Common mistakes
- Calling an observation an insight without explaining why it changes the strategy.
- Recommending channels before defining the audience problem and desired response.
- Packing the creative brief with facts instead of making a clear choice.
- Claiming campaign success from attention measures alone.
