About the role

A telecoms service desk analyst is the first point of contact for service faults and support requests. The interview tests how you question users, isolate likely causes, judge impact, record incidents and communicate a clean handover when specialist support is needed.

How to prepare

  1. Review basic checks for loss of connectivity, poor performance and device or local network problems.
  2. Practise gathering the service, location, symptoms, start time, scope, recent changes and checks already completed.
  3. Prepare an example of explaining a technical step to a frustrated non-technical person.
  4. Think through the difference between impact and urgency when assigning incident priority.
  5. Rehearse a concise escalation that includes evidence rather than only saying the service is down.

Common mistakes

  • Restarting equipment immediately without first understanding the scope of the fault.
  • Using technical terms without checking that the customer understands the instruction.
  • Escalating a ticket with missing contact, service, timing or troubleshooting details.
  • Closing an incident because an alarm cleared without confirming service restoration.
