About the role
This interview tests how you would support students facing academic, practical or personal difficulties. The panel wants calm listening, sound boundaries, accurate records and the judgement to refer serious concerns through the right safeguarding or support route.
How to prepare
- Review how a student support team receives, records, refers and follows up a concern.
- Prepare an example of helping someone identify practical next steps without taking over their decisions.
- Practise explaining the limits of confidentiality in clear and respectful language.
- Think through how you would manage several student cases with different levels of urgency.
Common mistakes
- Promising complete confidentiality before understanding the concern.
- Trying to counsel beyond your training instead of making an appropriate referral.
- Recording opinions or unnecessary personal detail as though they were facts.
