About the award
A teacher excellence award interview examines the practice and evidence behind a nomination. The panel wants to understand how teaching improves learning, includes different pupils, maintains a safe classroom and contributes to the wider school community.
How to prepare
- Select two or three teaching examples and connect each decision to an observable learning outcome.
- Review anonymised assessment evidence and be ready to explain what it can and cannot prove.
- Prepare an example of adapting a lesson for pupils with different levels or learning needs.
- Reflect on a setback or piece of feedback that changed your classroom practice.
- Check the official award guidance for the current criteria and evidence rules.
Common mistakes
- Claiming progress without showing how the evidence relates to your teaching.
- Sharing identifiable information about pupils or families.
- Presenting innovation as valuable without explaining what pupils learned.
