About the award
An undergraduate scholarship interview helps a panel choose students who will make the most of funding for their first degree. The panel looks at your academic record, what you want to study and why, how you have led or served others, how you have handled setbacks, and how the award will change what you can achieve.
How to prepare
- Know your results well, including WAEC and JAMB scores, and be ready to explain any weak subject honestly.
- Link your chosen course to a clear goal and a real experience that pointed you towards it.
- Prepare two short stories of leadership or service, such as a club, a class role or a community project.
- Think about a setback you overcame and what it taught you, without dwelling on hardship for sympathy.
- Read up on the scholarship body's aims so you can show how your goals fit theirs.
Common mistakes
- Reciting a memorised speech that falls apart when the panel follows up.
- Talking only about need and forgetting to show merit, drive and plans.
- Claiming leadership roles you cannot describe in any real detail.
