About the award
A need-based bursary interview helps a panel decide which students should get financial support to stay in school or finish a course. The panel wants to understand your commitment to your studies, exactly how the money would help, how you have managed with limited resources so far, and where you are heading.
How to prepare
- Work out your real costs for the session, such as fees, transport, books and accommodation, in naira.
- Be ready to explain your situation calmly and factually, without exaggerating or hiding anything.
- Think of practical ways you have kept up with your studies, such as part-time work or reading through power cuts.
- Prepare a clear goal for your course and career so the panel sees the bursary as an investment.
Common mistakes
- Overstating hardship, which panels notice and which damages trust.
- Not knowing your own figures, so the panel cannot tell how much support you need.
- Focusing only on money and saying nothing about your studies or goals.
