About the role
This interview examines visual merchandising as a commercial retail discipline, not decoration alone. The panel will assess how you guide customers, support product priorities, adapt concepts across store formats and measure whether creative work improves shopping and sales.
How to prepare
- Select portfolio examples that explain the trading objective, constraint and result of each display.
- Review how space, sight lines, adjacencies, signage and replenishment affect customer behaviour.
- Prepare an example of adapting one concept for different store sizes or stock positions.
- Think through the practical stages of a multi-store seasonal roll-out.
- Be ready to explain how you test display effectiveness beyond personal taste.
Common mistakes
- Presenting attractive work without explaining its commercial purpose.
- Designing displays that store teams cannot replenish or maintain.
- Treating local adaptation as failure instead of testing why it was needed.
- Judging success through opinion rather than customer and trading evidence.
