About the award
A business plan competition interview puts your plan in front of judges who decide which ideas win funding or support. They look at the opportunity you have spotted, your business model, your grasp of the numbers, how you will turn the plan into a working business and how well you present it.
How to prepare
- Practise your pitch until you can deliver it within the time limit without notes.
- Understand every figure in your financial projections and the assumptions behind them.
- Set out your first steps for the next six months in a clear order.
- Research your competitors and be ready to say why customers will choose you.
- Run your pitch past a friend who will challenge it before the judges do.
Common mistakes
- Presenting projections you cannot explain when the judges dig in.
- Running over time and losing the ending of your pitch.
- Treating the plan as finished and brushing off suggestions.
