About the role
This interview focuses on how you turn tender information into a complete, buildable and commercially sensible price. The panel wants disciplined take-offs, tested quotations, realistic productivity assumptions and a clear record of what the bid includes.
How to prepare
- Choose an estimate you built and be ready to explain your take-off, rate build-ups and checks.
- Review how preliminaries, temporary works, wastage, plant and subcontract packages enter a tender price.
- Practise comparing supplier quotations whose scope, delivery terms or specifications differ.
- Prepare an example of pricing around incomplete information without hiding the uncertainty.
- Review spreadsheet checks that catch broken formulas, duplicated quantities and missing scope.
Common mistakes
- Treating a supplier's lowest quotation as comparable without checking its scope.
- Giving productivity rates with no link to access, crew composition or construction method.
- Hiding assumptions in spreadsheet cells instead of recording them for review.
- Describing contingency as a substitute for identifying and pricing specific risks.
